Performs effectively as a student in an academy style classroom setting that is divided between didactic training and various clinical and prehospital areas. Learns how to effectively and safely assess the needs of patients using accepted national and state standards for the EMT-B and rapidly setting priorities of care. Learns how to effectively and safely render care to patients of all ages whom experience any injury or illness, utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques to safely assess, treat, lift, move and transport patients. Learns how to effectively and safely provide pre-hospital Basic Life Support care in all weather conditions, while maintaining an effective working relationship with other EMS providers as a valued member of the patient care team.
As a member of the Specialty Care Transport Unit (SCTU), provides care and attends to the needs of patients who require transport between healthcare facilities. Operates on Standing Order Protocols for patient care and provides interpretation of the patient's condition to a Medical Command Physician with rationale for treatment, and obtains orders when patient's condition exceeds the limits of the Standing Order Protocols. Plans and provides unique and individualized comfort measures utilizing scientifically-based standards of care. Facilitates communication of information to all members of the health team. Provides information and interpretation of patient's condition to patient and family and offers coping mechanisms. Assesses how much information a patient wants and needs using a vocabulary and approach that enables the patient to comprehend and documents outcomes.
Coordinates, designs, develops, implements, and facilitates computer training education. Uses effective communication to promote a positive environment. Demonstrates expertise through collaborative activities within and outside Capital Health (CH). Functions as a resource to all staff. Delivers and facilitates educational programs to ensure staff competency and development related to computer programs. Generates evaluation data for education and staff performance.
